War Service and War Office Report "Dr. Alexander Rentoul Esler joined the Royal Army Medical Corps under e temporary commission in the rank of Lieutenant on 13th August 1914, was promoted Captain a year later, and served until 23rd September 1919, when he was demobilised with permission to retain the rank of Kajor, in virtue of his having held the Acting rank for considerable periods during his service. The following Confidential Report was received concerning him:- "Has shown good profess- sional knowledge and ability and has performed all his duties in an exemplary way. He can maintain discipline very well and can lead men; can speak French and German

and is a good horeeman. He is a very good type of Officer."
